time to burn a flag in the middle of Milwaukee. I'm not going to even figure
out how one flows from the other. But if people want to protest something
(whether genuine or genuinely asinine), who am I to say no? Either way,
Milwaukee police officers were having nothing to do with the flag burning,
and it's sort of burning up the Internet today. Alas, I am sitting through 14
hours of a two-day lecture on intellectual property, so my postings will be
short. But I did want to share the video and a brief snippet of the article
itself.

From JS Online:

Photos and video of Milwaukee police officers folding a flag burned during
a demonstration downtown Tuesday night generated a lot of reaction on
social media.

Thousands of people were downtown Tuesday night for various events,
including the GOP presidential debate, demonstrations and the Bucks
game. During the course of the night, police saw a burning American flag
set on fire by a protester near N. 4th St. and W. Kilbourn Ave. and put it out
using a fire extinguisher....

Police later held a small ceremony to properly fold the flag, which was
soaked with gasoline and partially burned, before placing it in inventory.
The flag was taken as evidence for possible charges against the protester,
said Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn at a Veterans Day event
Wednesday morning at the War Memorial.

"Our officers engaged with this crowd in a restrained manner," Flynn said.
"They recognized that as obnoxious as it can seem, flag burning is
protected speech. The question is, is it endangering the third parties, and
that's what we're acting upon."

The demonstrator has been identified by officials, although police did not
release his name. Flynn said the person has previously been convicted for
arson.
